MINDS@EASE STRIVES TO CULTIVATE PEACE IN THE MINDS AND HEARTS OF CHILDREN & YOUTH
We are transforming the lives of children and youth, by providing mindfulness tools and practices that help build emotional and stress resiliency and offer life skills necessary for individual flourishing.
Why we do what we do:
• Canada spends 51 billion dollars a year on mental health
• 3 out 4 adolescents have significant problems with anxiety
• Approximately 15% of all children and youth aged 4-17 across Canada struggle with mental health issues
Mindfulness-Based Interventions
Mindfulness based interventions introduced into secular settings have more than 30 years of research and development behind them. This growing body of research on mindfulness awareness programs in school-based contexts reveals the following list of core benefits:
• Better focus and concentration
• Increased sense of calm
• Improved self-regulation and impulse control
• Skillfully managing difficult emotions
• Increased empathy and pro-social behavior
• Developing natural conflict resolution skills
Minds@Ease acknowledges that we live upon traditional territories. At the time of contact with settlers this land was held by the Chonnonton as an area of trade and ceremony by two rivers. Called “Attawandaron” by their neighbours and the “Neutral people” by the french. These treaty lands are steeped in rich Indigenous history and modern traditions. At various times it was occupied by both Haudenosaunee from the south and Anishinaabe from the north. In more recent times the Huron Treaty gave rights to the Mississaugas of New Credit. Today, this area is home to many Indigenous peoples from across turtle island. As a community may we honour and respect the four directions, the water, the plants, animals, and the ancestral lands on which we teach, learn and live.
